How RF&G Insurance Puts Community At The Center of Solutions

Empowered local communities build resiliency, fortifying the ability of local communities to withstand and recover from disasters. That’s why volunteers at the local and global levels are critical for climate action whose efforts take different forms, from grassroots community initiatives to specialized support worldwide. While community support looks different for everyone, RF&G Insurance Company Limited’s support has reflected the company’s unwavering commitment to its core values of customer service, financial stability, and community engagement since 1963.

As this cornerstone of Belize’s insurance landscape joins their support as a Platinum Sponsor for the 15th Annual Belikin Blue Water Classic fishing tournament, we reflect on the strides RF&G Insurance has made for the sportfishing community, marine conservation, and community stewardship.

Supporting Youth, Sports and the Environment

As a non-profit membership organization, the Belize Game Fish Association happily falls within RF&G Insurance’s pillar ethos of ‘giving back’ in campaigns geared towards youth, sports, and the environment. Just within BGFA-organized events, RF&G Insurance Company Limited has been a keen—and constant—supporter of community-led coastal clean-ups and our Passports to Fishing youth camp under the International Game Fish Association (IGFA) signature interactive curriculum! Since its inaugural addition to our event calendar in December 2023, our main sponsor RF&G Insurance allowed us to host the past two youth camps of 2024 entirely FREE, allowing even further accessibility to young anglers and specifically targeting at-risk youth or children who wouldn’t otherwise be exposed to fishing. But their conservation also spans inland with wildlife: young Belizeans embarked on a 5-day, 4-night journey with the Belize Zoo Education Team for their 2024 summer Conservation Camp.

The 2024 Conservation Camp with The Belize Zoo fostered 30 young Belizeans (12-17 years old) into conservation leadership with hands-on wildlife experiences, outdoor education, field studies, and creative arts.

Beyond internal initiatives to contribute back to the environment, like going paperless whenever possible to reduce the company’s carbon footprint, RF&G Insurance’s contribution to social causes with positive and measurable community efforts goes beyond monetary contribution. Instead, staff contributes their most important resource: time.

By putting the community at the center of solutions, the aim is a ripple effect that echoes outward from the staff’s participation and best practices outside the workplace. And sometimes, RF&G Insurance’s support even looks like encouraging staff and youths to stay active within a community wherever their passion leads them individually—whether in running, basketball, or even rugby—and fostering a shared connection from the ground up. Think junior teams of El Mundialito football to The San Pedro Tiger Sharks, who hold the #2 of 2024 Belize Elite Basketball League (BEBL) playoffs.

The RF&G Insurance Company Limited's team participates in the 2024 Cancer Walk, Belize City.

“Its about recognizing that our connections are our greatest asset, that every challenge we face is shared, and that every solution we find is a victory. For everyone,” shares Toni Chanona-Bradley, the Operations Manager at RF&G Insurance.

Aside from success on the court, the San Pedro Tiger Sharks actively support and promote youth sports by visiting schools, such as Crooked Tree Government School, where they shared their personal stories and inspired students to chase their dreams.

Representing a membership body, the Belize Game Fish Association is proud to add our collective voice to challenges—and their solutions—within our community, especially regarding conservation. Building community resiliency, advocating for environmental stewardship, and encouraging youth engagement are but a handful of achievements made possible by the support of our Platinum Sponsor of RF&G Insurance Company Limited!
