Community Involvement with ICB for a Resilient Belize

Resilience: It's a word all too familiar since the onset of COVID-19 in March 2020. The essence of the insurance industry is about helping people and businesses through times of loss and the unexpected. For insurance professionals and companies like Platinum Sponsor Insurance Corporation of Belize (ICB), it’s what makes the industry rewarding and meaningful. We know that insurance helps build resilience by enabling people and businesses to carry on when the worst happens, but also by helping them to manage potential risks in the first place.

It’s also a challenge that ICB has embraced for more than forty-one years.

A strong sense of social responsibility has remained embedded in the company, guiding efforts to help people now and in future generations achieve peace of mind and a more secure future. Founded in 1981 by Mr. Erdulfo ‘Dufy’ Nunez, a leader in the industry since 1963, has grown ICB from a small two-person operation into one of the largest insurance providers.

"Since our inception, ICB has been wholly committed to growing our communities and serving our neighbors, especially in times of need. Belize is our home."

Being a Platinum Sponsor for the 14th Annual Belikin Blue Water Classic is but one example of ICB investing back into the community.

Social Responsibility Starts At Home

It's not only about being involved with social responsibility initiatives to contribute to a safer community and reduce environmental impacts. For many young professionals entering the insurance industry, social responsibility and contributing to the community aren’t just ‘the right things to do, but key aspects of what they look for in a prospective employer and who they're also investing in.

They've sponsored tournaments outside of BGFA before, too: "Fish On" won the big Insurance Corporation of Belize (ICB) "Best Boat" cash prize of $4,000 at the 20th Annual Placencia BTIA Saltwater Fishing Tournament in 2018. The team also raked in the Yoli's Bar "Largest fish caught by a female angler" prize and the MnM Hardware & Service Station "Largest barracuda caught by a junior angler" prize. Sportfishing is a great intersection between sports, youth, and the environment.

Partnering with local or non-profits - and often youth-oriented ones, like being a sponsor to SACD's Annual General Meeting 2022 - to assist in areas such as arts and culture, health initiatives, and sports teams, meaningful and purposeful initiatives will always matter to the insurance industry. At Belize Game Fishing Association, we are grateful to once again welcome Insurance Corporation of Belize as a Platinum Sponsor in 2022!
