Community Connection: Insurance Awareness Can Be Key To Civic Pride + Growth

“Belize is our home.” It’s one of the first things that pops out on The Insurance Corporation of Belize (ICB) website, a key provider of insurance services in Belize since 1981. Mostly because civic pride is what connects us, too: through ICB’s role in fostering community resilience and stability. When residents feel secure in their financial and physical well-being—thanks to accessible insurance services—they're more likely to engage positively with their community.

Moreover, ICB's commitment to serving local needs can enhance citizens' sense of belonging and responsibility—investing not just financially, but socially, like their support of the BGFA as a Platinum Sponsor of the 15th Annual Belikin Blue Water Classic! In one fell swoop, ICB’s involvement with us at the Belize Game Fish Association bolsters the (sportfishing) community’s roots in the environment, youth, and sports.

Prioritizing private and public partnerships to impact local communities beyond just the BGFA, their teams are passionate about creating programs that help communities thrive, especially when supporting and inspiring the next generation—our children.

They've sponsored tournaments outside of BGFA before, too: "Fish On" won the big Insurance Corporation of Belize (ICB) "Best Boat" cash prize of $4,000 at the 20th Annual Placencia BTIA Saltwater Fishing Tournament in 2018. The team also raked in the Yoli's Bar "Largest fish caught by a female angler" prize and the MnM Hardware & Service Station "Largest barracuda caught by a junior angler" prize. Sportfishing is a great intersection between sports, youth, and the environment.

About ICB: their employees, values, and more

Founded in 1981 by Mr. Erdulfo Nunez. As a leader in the Belizean insurance industry since 1963, the Belizean-owned and -operated company led by Mr. Nunez—better known as Mr. Dufy—has since grown from a small, two-person operation into one of the largest and most trusted insurance providers in our country. That personal connection is exactly what sets the  Insurance Corporation of Belize (ICB) apart. Whether that’s individual visits to policyholders in a time of need, sponsoring youth-based community engagement (like the ReD Dragon Martial Arts Academy), or hosting educational lectures on traffic laws and safety for residents.

Today, ICB boasts a branch network spanning the entire country with over 100 employees—some even serving for thirty years of their four decades, like Mr. Marvin Garcia, a Sales Manager at ICB featured in Will’s educational video above. From marine insurance to liabilities and home insurance, ICB does it all, save for life insurance and health insurance. With one branch office in every municipality in Belize, the Insurance Corporation of Belize has been wholly committed to insurance awareness and economic development through community resilience. Because for ICB, “the sponsorship is not merely a business transaction; it is a manifestation of their commitment to supporting the communities we serve in”. It’s also a subtle nod towards empowering individuals with the knowledge they need to protect their financial futures—every step of the way.

After all, this is our community: Belize is our home. Our collective efforts to protect it pay off in safety, lower insurance premiums, and peace of mind.
